ATLANTA – The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team (11-2, 3-0 ACC) picked up a 5-2 victory against Georgia Tech (6-5, 2-1 ACC) on Friday (March 1) at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Ga.
The Cavaliers dropped the doubles point but won five singles matches, including four in straight sets, to tally the road victory.
Georgia Tech took doubles courts two and three by 6-3 scores to take the 1-0 lead.
Senior Sara Ziodato tied the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at court four. Senior Hibah Shaikh followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Grad Student Natasha Subhash won 6-2, 6-4 at three before junior Elaine Chervinsky clinched the victory with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win at five. Junior Mélodie Collard added a three-set win at six for UVA’s fifth point. Georgia Tech took court one to make it 5-2.
This was the second meeting of the year between the two teams. Virginia logged a 4-0 victory against the Yellow Jackets in the final match of ITA Kickoff Weekend in January.
