CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team (12-2, 4-0 ACC) picked up a 4-0 victory against Clemson (8-4, 1-2 ACC) on Sunday (March 3) at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.
The Cavaliers won the doubles point and logged victories at singles courts one, two and six.
Senior Hibah Shaikh and grad student Natasha Subhash opened the match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Juniors Elaine Chervinsky and Mélodie Collard clinched the point with a 6-4 win on the top court.
UVA went up 2-0 when Cristina Mavorova retired from court one. She was trailing 5-2 in the first set at the time of her retirement. Shaikh made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court two. Collard clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at six.
Clemson is No. 51 in the most recent ITA team rankings.
