CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 12 Virginia women’s tennis team (14-4, 7-2 ACC) picked up a 4-3 victory against No. 20 Georgia Tech (10-7, 4-5 ACC) on Friday (March 31) at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
The match started with the Cavaliers taking the doubles point on the outdoor courts and was moved indoors when it began raining during the single’s first sets. When play resumed, Virginia won three singles matches to take a 4-0 lead. Georgia Tech took the final three courts to make it a 4-3 final score.
Senior Natasha Subhash clinched the victory by picking up a top 10 singles win, downing No. 7 Carol Lee 6-3, 6-3 on the top court.
Virginia’s strong doubles play continued with Mélodie Collard and Julia Adams winning 6-1 on court one, followed by a 6-1 victory by Subhash and Elaine Chervinsky on court two to clinch the point.
Collard gave UVA a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court six. Moments later, Sara Ziodato finished her 6-2, 6-4 win against Rosie Garcia Gross on court five to give UVA a 3-0 edge. Subhash followed with the clincher to put UVA ahead 4-0.
Julia Adams was edged 7-5 in a tiebreaker to decide her second set to make it 4-1. Hibah Shaikh battled through a third-set super tiebreaker on court four but was edged 13-11…
