Virginia Women’s Tennis | Cavaliers Sweep Singles Matches on Final Day of Home Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia women’s tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule by hosting the Wahoowa Invitational tournament Friday through Sunday (Sept. 15-17) at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.

On Sunday, the team finished by going 6-0 in singles against Maryland. The doubles teams went 3-1 on the day.

Sophomore Annabelle Xu and freshman Zara Larke both finished with 3-0 records in singles in the tournament. The Cavaliers went 19-3 in singles and 7-4 in doubles over the three days.

Playing indoors on Sunday, Larke and Xu picked up a pair of quick victories over Francesca Feodorov and Minokra Miranda to open singles play. Both Hibah Shaikh and Nicole Kiefer won third-set super breakers to close out the singles sweep.

Players from Virginia, James Madison, Iowa State, Maryland, Penn State, Princeton, West Virginia competed as individuals in singles and doubles in the event.

Up next, some of the Cavaliers will travel to Cary, N.C. to compete in the Fall Ranked Spotlight Tournament Sept. 21-24 at the Cary Tennis Center. Other members of the team will compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Wisconsin.
