Ahead of Virginia Tech’s opening game in the ACC tournament on Friday against Miami, coach Kenny Brooks told the Virginia Tech Sports Network during its pregame show that center Elizabeth Kitley will not play in the ACC tournament after sustaining a left leg injury in the Hokies’ season-finale loss at Virginia last weekend.
Kitley will be re-evaluated after the conference tournament. The three-time ACC Player of the Year and The Athletic first-team All-American averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds per game this season for No. 11 Virginia Tech (23-6, 14-4 ACC).
Last Sunday, Kitley suffered what appeared to be a non-contact left knee injury during the third quarter in the loss and went back to the locker room with a trainer. She returned later that quarter and walked to the bench without assistance. However, following the game, Brooks was visibly shaken.
“I don’t know Kitley’s status and to be honest with you, that’s where my mind is,” said after the game. “I’m not going to be able to give you guys anything just out of respect for her.”
