No. 13 Virginia Tech welcomed its first regular-season sellout in program history Sunday, as a stadium of 8,925 fans came to see the Hokies take on undefeated No. 3 NC State.
The record crowd witnessed a finish to remember.
Virginia Tech (12-2, 3-0) trailed for most of the game, despite the Wolfpack missing starting center River Baldwin with an ankle injury. But Elizabeth Kitley gave the Hokies the improbable 63-62 victory, scoring with 0.9 seconds left to hand NC State its first loss of the season.

The fifth-year senior scored 27 points, nine coming in the fourth quarter as Virginia Tech stormed back from an 11-point deficit with 7:52 to play. The Hokies didn’t take their first lead of the game until 98 seconds remained on — you guessed it — a Kitley lay-up.
The Wolfpack went cold down the stretch, failing to score for nearly eight minutes in the fourth as they took rushed shots and ran into Kitley multiple times at the rim. Still, it seemed like NC State would escape with the victory and keep its undefeated record intact when Saniya Rivers drove baseline and finished a reverse over the All-American center with 1.9 seconds left.
