Belinda Bencic sustained severe food poisoning in Guadalajara that forced her to miss the Mexican WTA 1000 event and also the entire Asian swing. The week after the US Open, Bencic played at the San Diego Open, where she was beaten by Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round.
Bencic then went to Guadalajara, where she was scheduled to play in a WTA 1000 tournament taking place between September 17-23. But Bencic ended up abruptly withdrawing from Guadalajara and she hasn’t played since. “She was sick for ten days and lost a good part of her fitness.

Bencic was left without a chance to qualify for the WTA Finals
After the US Open, Bencic still had a shot at sealing a WTA Finals spot and she was scheduled in two WTA 1000 tournaments – Guadalajara and Beijing.
