Venus Williams‘ highly-anticipated return to action has finally been confirmed. The tennis legend will come back to competition at the June 12-18 Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The 42-year-old Williams hasn’t competed since January, due to a hamstring injury sustained in Auckland. Now her return is finally official, as the American has received a wildcard for the grass-court event in the Netherlands. Her last previous singles match on grass was the second round of Wimbledon 2021, although she played the mixed doubles in London last year.
Even though the WTA 250 tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is one of the oldest on the calendar, Williams has never so far in her storied career competed there. Other players confirmed for the 2023 Libema Open include Victoria Azarenka, Bianca Andreescu, Belinda Bencic, Zheng Qinwen, and defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova. (source: WTA)
