Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams and former world No 3 Elina Svitolina have been granted main draw wildcard into Wimbledon, the tournament announced. Williams, 43, made her Wimbledon debut in 1997 and now she is one of the greatest players in Wimbledon history.
Williams, who returned last week from a six-month break caused by a hamstring injury, was expected to receive a Wimbledon main draw wildcard. Svitolina, a 2019 Wimbledon semifinalist, also received a main draw wildcard into The Championships.
Svitolina, 28, was out for 13 months before returning to tennis from maternity leave in April. Svitolina receiving a Wimbledon main draw was also something expected.
Williams set to play at Wimbledon again
Last year, Williams wasn’t scheduled to participate in any Wimbledon events as her initial plan was just to support her sister Serena.
