Hello again. A lot has changed since the last time we considered the possibilities around the USWNT roster for the World Cup back in February, ahead of the SheBelieves Cup. We’ve had a major return (Julie Ertz, now officially with Angel City FC), a major injury (Mallory Swanson), and the potential returns of a few players have come into greater focus — and also greater doubt — ahead of this summer’s tournament.
Thanks to the April window and the 26-player roster for the training camp, plus all the tiny scraps of information we can glean from what head coach Vlatko Andonovksi has said over the past couple of weeks, we’re back for another attempt at making our predictions for the final roster. As a reminder, that means the 23 players we think are heading to Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.
Based on currently available information, there are several individual factors that make a return to the squad more or less likely:
- Catarina Macario’s recovery seems to have progressed slower than expected, though Andonovski has not closed the door to any player — for Macario, he’s stated multiple times she needs to get back on the field in order to be evaluated.
