The U.S. women’s national team Olympic celebration tour continues against Iceland on Sunday. The USWNT defeated Iceland on Thursday, 3-1, and the two sides will meet for a second time during the international window before closing out the October international window against Argentina on Wednesday.
In line with the victory tour includes milestone celebrations. Emily Sonnett was honored for 100 appearances with the national team, and on Sunday the program will recognize the 100-cap mark for forward Mallory Swanson. The 26-year-old Swanson scored the game-winning goal during the gold medal match against Brazil in the Olympics. The program will also honor two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Kelley O’Hara in a halftime ceremony,
O’Hara previously announced her retirement in May, effective after her club season with NJ/NY Gotham FC, but the veteran defender was placed on the season-ending injury list with chronic knee degeneration and was recently honored at a Gotham home game. The former World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist will be celebrated during halftime against Iceland.
