The U.S. women’s national team will play two friendlies against South Korea on June 1 in Commerce City, Col. and June 4 in St. Paul, Minn, the team announced on Tuesday. The games are set to be the first contests the U.S. will play under incoming head coach Emma Hayes, who will take over in the position after completing this season in charge of Chelsea in May.
Both games will be played in the cities’ respective MLS stadiums, with June 1’s contest taking place at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (home of the Colorado Rapids) and June 4th’s at Allianz Field (home of Minnesota United).
Hayes signed a deal in November that made her the highest-paid coach in women’s football. She has led Chelsea to six Women’s Super League championships.
The 47-year-old said she took the job “to coach the most incredible team in world football history.”
“It will be exciting for everyone to have Emma on board for the June games,” said U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore in a statement. “We need as many quality games as we can get heading into the Olympics and Korea Republic will provide good tests.”
