Catarina Macario scored her first international goal in nearly three years, and Ally Sentnor tallied her first for the United States senior women’s national team as the Americans defeated Colombia 2-0 on Thursday in Houston to open their 2025 campaign and the 10th edition of the SheBelieves Cup.

U.S. head coach Emma Hayes rolled out an experimental lineup – as she had said she would – and handed out first caps to defenders Tara McKeown, Gisele Thompson, and forward Michelle Cooper.

These are three key talking points from the match.

Macario’s big return

Macario scored for the U.S. for the first time in nearly three years, dating back to before her torn ACL and subsequent struggles with rehab. Back then, former U.S. head coach Vlatko Andonovski was shaping up a roster rebuild that would be centered around Macario. It never got off the ground under Andonovski; Macario missed the 2023 World Cup.
