The USL Super League intends to apply to U.S. Soccer for Division I sanctioning by Sept. 1, 2023, it announced Tuesday.
This is a change from the league’s previous announcement in 2021 that the Super League would apply for Division II sanctioning with the intention to launch in 2023 — that is now being pushed back to 2024. The Super League hopes to launch as a 10- to 12-team league next year, though it has eight initial markets at the time of the news release, with more to be announced in coming months.
