USA win United Cup, Gauff named tournament MVP

The United States claimed a thrilling victory in the United Cup final on Sunday night in Sydney, capturing their second title in three years with standout performances from Coco Gauff, the 2025 United Cup MVP, and Taylor Fritz. Battling against Poland, who endured their second consecutive runner-up finish, the American duo delivered stellar wins to seal the championship in unforgettable fashion.

In a packed Ken Rosewall Arena, Gauff set the tone with a stunning 6-4 6-4 win over world No. 2 Iga Swiatek. Fritz followed with a dramatic 6-4 5-7 7-6(4) victory against Hubert Hurkacz, capping a match dominated by powerful serving. The clash featured 30 aces and only three break points.

Both Gauff and Fritz brought their stellar 2024 form to the tournament, building on their banner seasons. Gauff, who claimed the WTA Finals title in Riyadh with another win over Swiatek, went undefeated in five United Cup singles matches. She starts the year ranked No. 3 in the PIF WTA Rankings. Fritz, ranked a career-high No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings, bounced back from an opening loss to Felix Auger-Aliassime in Perth to win his next four matches.
