The 2024 Paris Olympics are almost here, and that means the USA Olympic track and field team has to finalize its roster at this year’s trials. The competitions will take place at Hayward Field, located at the University of Oregon.
The track and field portion of the Olympics is one that Team USA has dominated, so fans should expect the trials to be just as intense as the actual Paris Games. The U.S. owns 328 gold medals, the most in Olympic track and field history by far.
Sha’Carri Richardson (reigning 100-meter world champion) and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (reigning world and Olympic champion in the 400-meter hurdles) highlight the competitors on the women’s side. This is a big moment for Richardson, who will attempt to earn her first Olympic berth after being disqualified from the Tokyo Games because of a positive drug test for a prohibited substance (marijuana).
Noah Lyles, the 2023 world champion in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay races, is the biggest star on the men’s side. Ryan Crouser will be seeking an opportunity to become the first field athlete to win three consecutive gold medals in the shot put.
