The 2023 US Open is upon us, and it’s going to look pretty different this year.
Novak Djokovic is back in the fold for this year’s iterations after missing last year due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 vaccine. On the women’s side, Serena Williams is on at least a hiatus from tennis and likely retired after welcoming a second daughter to the family, meaning a staple won’t be playing there.
There’s still plenty to watch in that bracket, however. Iga Swiatek returns as the favorite after winning the 2022 US Open, with Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff on her tail.
Carlos Alcaraz is back as the defending men’s singles winner and the winner of Wimbledon earlier this year, but beating Djokovic is going to be difficult. Alcaraz was able to best him at Wimbledon, but Djokovic has won six of the last nine Grand Slams he’s played in and recently prevailed in an epic final between the two in Cincinnati.
