US Open boss backs Coco Gauff to be Serena Williams and Venus Williams’ successor

US Open tournament director Stacey Allaster thinks “special” Coco Gauff is definitely looking like someone who can follow in the footsteps of Serena and Venus Williams and lead American women’s tennis for many years. Gauff, 19, landed her first Grand Slam title at this year’s US Open and now she is the top-ranked American female tennis player.

Before the start of the US Open, some thought that Gauff winning the US Open exactly a year after Serena’s retirement would be a great story. Exactly that happened as Gauff became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena in 1999.
