Australia and Team USA have plenty of history playing important games against each other.
The Americans defeated Australia to win the gold medal in 2000, 2004, and 2008. In 1996 and 2012, Team USA beat the Opals in the semifinals.
Opals head coach Sandy Brondello was a player on the ‘96, ‘00 and ‘04 teams, with the latter year seeing her team lose to Diana Taurasi, who is still playing for the Americans.
