Ukrainian-born Maryna Zanevska explains what trigged panic attack in Saint-Malo

Date:

Ukrainian-born Belgian tennis player Maryna Zanevska said the panic attack she suffered in Saint-Malo was triggered by the sirens unexpectedly going off. During a round-of-16 match between Zanevska and Katie Volynets, the sirens started going off after the first set.

Zanevska, who was born in Odessa, started crying as she was visibly very stressed. After taking some time to recollect and calm herself, Zanevska was able to continue the match. Unfortunately for Zanevska, she lost the second and third sets as Volynets claimed a 2-6 6-4 7-5 comeback win.

Zanevska explains what happened in Saint-Malo

“I had a very weird feeling today during my match after winning the first set. I have no idea why but the siren was on! For maybe 20 seconds but felt like forever! I have never been to Ukraine since the 24th of February.

I never experienced a siren. But it was such a trigger point sound. My heartbeat was 200! I was overwhelmed. Usually, when I step on the court, it’s my place where I forget about my problems. But here it hit me badly!” Zanevska wrote on her Instagram Story.
