A pair of former UFC champions dominated as the promotion returned to Atlanta for the first time in several years. At UFC Atlanta this past Saturday night, Kamaru Usman and Rose Namajunas picked up key decision victories.
The main card aired live on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+ along with the prelims from the State Farm Arena. It marked the first appearance in Atlanta for the UFC since UFC 236 back in April 2019.
Usman, a former welterweight champion, swept all three scorecards over five rounds of action in the main event vs. Joaquin Buckley. The 38-year-old had lost three in a row entering the match, but had not fought since 2023.
In the co-main event, Namajunas picked up a decision over Miranda Maverick in the women’s flyweight division. The 32-year-old has now won three of her last four, with all four matches going to the scorecards.
Other main card winners included Edmen Shahbazyan, Raoni Barcelos, Mansur Abdul-Malik and Alonzo Menifield. In prelim action, Malcolm Wellmaker made an impact, flooring Kris Moutinho in the opening round.
For his performance, Wellmaker picked up a bonus along with Jose Ochoa. The “Fight of the Night” went to Usman and Buckley.
The next event will be UFC on ABC: Hill vs. Rountree Jr. from the Baku…
