Du Plessis claimed the 185-pound strap when defeating Strickland via split decision at UFC 297.
“Stillknocks” has since defended the title against Israel Adesanya, while Strickland scored a split-decision victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 302 to ensure he remained in the title picture.
