Not many coaches can say they’ve led one program for four decades. Geno Auriemma is one of the few.
The UConn Huskies’ head coach has a daunting 1250-165 record all time. He has 12 national championships. He’s also the oldest coach in women’s college basketball.
It’s only natural for fans and analysts to question how much longer Auriemma will continue coaching.
The UConn head coach was on Sportscenter Thursday night, sharing his thoughts on his eventual retirement.
“At some point it’s gonna be ‘I wish I could stay longer, but I’m just not good enough to coach this team anymore.’”

Auriemma was first asked: “What will determine how long you do this?”
His answer was simple: “How I feel when I wake up tomorrow morning.”

The UConn head coach went on to dispel rumors that his retirement would be linked to the timeline of any star players.
“If we’re doing our job right there’s always one or two of those that you go ‘how can you leave that?'”
