UConn women’s basketball continues to roll, even as the No. 5 Huskies’ bad luck with injury and illness continues.
Sophomore guard Caroline Ducharme became the latest player to miss time. She sat out Tuesday’s 80-47 win against Butler due to concussion protocol, and she will miss Thursday’s game at Xavier as well.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma also sat out Tuesday’s game due to illness. Associate head coach Chris Dailey led the team in his absence.
“Every other day, we get one person back and then we lose one,” Dailey said. “Then Coach isn’t feeling well. It makes you tougher. It makes you stronger as a group. You don’t have a choice… you have to figure it out. I think that’s what we’ve been doing.”
Ducharme had played in 12 of 13 games for UConn (12-2) before Tuesday, and she is averaging 8.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. But she will miss at least one more game in concussion protocol after being injured in practice Monday, and there is no set timetable for her return.
Just three players have appeared in every game for the Huskies: Aaliyah Edwards, Lou Lopez Sénéchal and Ayanna Patterson.
