Oklahoma can take another major step toward its fourth consecutive national championship Saturday, but UCLA might serve as one of the Sooners’ toughest tests yet.
The Bruins silenced Alabama’s offense to start their Women’s College World Series run, prevailing by a margin of 4-1 on Thursday to set up a matchup with powerhouse Oklahoma. Saturday won’t be an elimination game for either side, as the Sooners took care of business Thursday as well, but it will put the winner just one win away from the Final.
Oklahoma didn’t enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed, ceding that position to Texas, but the Sooners have looked every bit as dominant over the last three years. That pattern continued with a six-inning, 9-1 victory over Duke to start the College World Series on Thursday.
UCLA allowed one run over two super regionals games against Georgia, and run-prevention remained the Bruins’ best asset against Alabama on Thursday. Shutting down Oklahoma’s offense is a monumentally more difficult task, but the reward would be a giant step toward a title.
