In the wake of multiple gambling investigations into behavior involving college athletes, as well as the Alabama baseball coach, U.S. Integrity and RealResponse launched a tipline for college athletes, coaches and support staff to anonymously report gambling-related issues in real time.
The tipline, launched Thursday, comes almost exactly one week after an investigation into irregular gambling behavior cost Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon his job and mere days after dozens of athletes at Iowa and Iowa State were said to be under investigation by the state’s gaming association. Bohannon was directly connected to suspicious gambling activity in Ohio concerning his team’s baseball game against LSU on April 28. None of the Iowa or Iowa State athletes being investigated bet on their own teams, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission; the investigation is related to prohibited online betting activity as well as possible NCAA violations.
As sports gambling has become more prevalent and legal in more states, the fears of improper activity have grown across college sports and in the pros. It has been critically important for leaders to partner with integrity monitoring services to flag suspicious activity and elevate what needs to be elevated.
