Tottenham hold talks with Johan Lange over director of football position

Tottenham Hotspur have held exploratory talks with Johan Lange over their vacant director of football role.

The north London side have identified Lange as a potential successor for Fabio Paratici, who resigned in April following his ban from football.

Paratici resigned after being given a 30-month ban from “any football-related activity” by FIFA that, on appeal, was partially reduced. This was due to his involvement in a case regarding the alleged inflation of capital gains from player trading.

Lange’s departure has been discussed internally at Villa, although nothing has been agreed or formalised yet.

Any incoming director of football at Spurs will be expected to report to chief football officer Scott Munn, who began working in his new role last month after leaving his position as chief executive of City Football Group (CFG) China. He will take charge of all footballing departments, including the academy and the women’s team.

When compared with the Manchester City setup, the way that all the football departments will report to him makes Munn most like CFG’s chief operating officer Omar Berrada, with the director of football in the Txiki Begiristain role, responsible for player deals.
