Mark Davis’ acquisition of the Aces remains a success
Davis’ 2021 acquisition of the Aces has been a resounding success. Soon after his purchase, he announced he’d be building an 80,000 square-foot facility in Henderson, Nev. — 50,000 square feet will be dedicated to the Aces and the rest will go to the Al Davis-Eddie Robinson Leadership Academy — which will include practice courts, offices and locker rooms, and is expected to be complete this year.
After the Aces fell short in the playoffs that summer, Davis made a power play when he hired Becky Hammon to replace Bill Laimbeer as head coach and made her the first coach in WNBA history to exceed an annual salary of $1 million. The investment immediately paid dividends as the Aces won the WNBA Finals last season.
