Tigres and Club América have enjoyed a spell of friendly matches against European standouts Real Madrid and Barcelona Femení. Despite América earning a 3-2 win over Real Madrid, they couldn’t keep up in league play against the mighty Tigres.
In Liga MX Femenil action, during Jornada 9, Tigres ruined América’s perfect season. Tigres now sits on top of the table with eight wins and a draw while América takes second place with eight wins and one loss. One point separates the two sides, with not much wiggle room on the goal differential column — Tigres holds a narrow four-goal advantage.
América hosted the match, and the reigning champions did get on the board. Katty Martínez found the back of the net first, in the 22nd minute, thanks to a cut-back and strike at the top of the box. Teammate Kiana Palacios led the breakaway and neglected to take the shot herself, sending it over to Martínez at the other side of the box.
