NJ/NY Gotham FC is in advanced talk to sign star defender Tierna Davidson, according to multiple sources familiar with the negotiations.
The California native has featured prominently for the U.S. women’s national team, where she was part of the 2019 Women’s World Cup winning squad.
Gotham FC could not be reached for comment.
The 25-year-old would join Gotham from the Chicago Red Stars, where she was selected as the first overall draft pick in 2019. She made 61 appearances in all competitions for Chicago since then. For the U.S., Davidson has earned 51 caps and also notched a goal in a 2018 friendly against Chile.
Davidson is one of many high-profile free agents that have been linked to Gotham. Crystal Dunn is interested in joining the championship side, and sources have indicated that both Rose Lavelle and Emily Sonnett are said to be in advanced discussions to sign with the club, as The Athletic previously reported.
