“You called her out after she hit. You can’t interrupt me every two seconds, let me talk. You can’t deny me, I want to ask her about the rules. It’s my right, I won’t start playing again until you call her!”
With these words, Coco Gauff attacked chair umpire Pierre Bacchi, who unfairly annulled a point served by the young American, obtained in the match she later won against Karolina Pliskova at Dubai Duty Free.
Coco threatened to no longer continue her match in the round of 16, remaining still for almost 5 minutes to contest a questionable decision by the chair umpire.
The American’s serve was called out by the referee, after Pliskova’s return into the net, but Hawk-Eye overturned Bacchi’s decision, highlighting how the ball was good. Gauff protested in the center of the court demanding the point, while the umpire didn’t agree with her and asked her to repeat the first serve. Thus the American’s outburst.
