Teofimo Lopez has already reached the top of the mountain at 25. “The Takeover” is a former WBA, IBF, WBO, and Ring lightweight champion who, at one point, held the whole world in his gloves. However, since 2021, Lopez has been looking to recreate the magic of October 2020 when he beat the mighty Vasiliy Lomachenko.
In a new division, can Lopez return to his dominant ways? He now looks to test himself against WBO and Ring super lightweight champion Josh Taylor on June 10.
The fight takes place at the Hulu Theater inside Madison Square Garden, a familiar home to Lopez, and will air on ESPN and ESPN+.
Lopez made waves when he beat Richard Commey in 2019 via TKO to win the IBF lightweight title. He then outpointed Lomachenko for WBA, WBO, and Ring gold. However, fame, COVID-19, weight cutting, and promoter changes (Top Rank to Triller to Matchroom) affected his growth. He lost the belts to George Kambosos Jr. in a stunning upset.
