The 128th Boston Marathon to be the Fastest in Women’s Running History

Every year we say it, and every year we’re proven wrong: it can’t get much faster than this. The 128th Boston Marathon, set for April 15, will feature the strongest group of female athletes in the race’s history. The lineup of women in the elite field, announced on January 10, includes Olympians, World Marathon Majors champions, and 19 runners with personal bests under 2:23:00. 

Familiar faces will line up in Hopkinton to either defend their titles or claim new ones, like two-time Olympian Hellen Obiri, the winner of the 2023 Boston Marathon with a time of 2:21:38. Obiri, 34, is from Kenya, but has been training with the On Athletics Club in Boulder, Colorado, for the past year. She’s surely to be challenged, as the 2019 Boston champion, Workenesh Degefa of Ethiopia, is in the field, along with compatriot Ababel Yeshaneh, who placed second in 2022 and fourth in 2023.
