It must not have been easy for Jannik Sinner to take to the court waiting to hear a verdict that could have changed his career forever. The case involving the Italian, which began in Indian Wells when he tested positive for Clostebol, has called into question one of the values that the ATP No.1 holds dear: the one that refers to loyalty.
The Italian has made many sacrifices to become a champion: all in the name of integrity – both moral and physical – and rectitude. When this system of virtues was called into question, Sinner took refuge in his usual silence and understood who he could trust.
Who knows how many times, in his room, Sinner will have thought about the people capable of expressing – perhaps too lightly – a harsh judgment capable of undermining the sense of honesty that allowed him to reach the top of the tennis world.
