Seniors at Oklahoma do not know what it’s like to come away with anything short of a national championship. They are now one win away from ending all four seasons with a ring.
Oklahoma used the strength of three home runs — and a few Texas miscues — to win 8-3 in Game 1 of the Women’s College World Series and take the 1-0 advantage over the Longhorns. With one more win, the Sooners will win their fourth straight title and eighth overall championship.
History already favors the Sooners significantly. The team that wins Game 1 of the Women’s College World Series has gone on to win the entire series 78 percent of the time.

The Longhorns shouldn’t be giving up hope yet. Texas took the No. 1 ranking from Oklahoma earlier in the year when the Longhorns won Games 2 and 3 in April to win the series, the first series loss for Oklahoma since 2011.
