Martina Navratilova says Iga Swiatek definitely still has room for improvement as the former 18-time Grand Slam champion suggests the Pole improving her volleying game may be the key to the 23-year-old also achieving success on grass.
This past weekend, 23-year-old Swiatek won her fifth Grand Slam title after demolishing Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-1 in the French Open final. By beating Paolini, Swiatek also impressively completed a French Open three-peat and now has four titles at Roland Garros.
While Swiatek’s clay dominance is well-documented and some are already calling her the WTA version of Rafael Nadal, the Pole remains on only one Grand Slam title outside the French Open – she won the 2022 US Open. Navratilova – one of the greatest champions in tennis history – highlights Swiatek already has the game to win outside clay but believes that the current world No. 1 would “win even more” by adding something new to her game and becoming a bigger threat.
