London Marathon organisers believe this year’s elite field is the most impressive ever assembled in the sport’s history with Eliud Kipchoge among the big names looking to cash in

A record-breaking 56,000 could finish Sunday’s TCS London Marathon and while the vast majority will just want to make it to the finish line while raising huge funds for charities, there is some big money on offer for the pros at the front of the field.

Last year London made the big step to offer equal prize pools for all four races – including the wheelchair events – and the sums remain the same for 2025.

Organisers believe they have assembled the greatest elite field in the sport’s history, despite women’s world record holder Ruth Chepngetich and legend Kenenisa Bekele withdrawing in the past few days.

Icon Eliud Kipchoge is among those lining up in the men’s race, alongside 2024’s fastest marathoner Sebastian Sawe, Olympic champion Tamirat Tola and recent half marathon record breaker Jacob Kiplimo.

More than 46,000 people will start the TCS London Marathon on Sunday with 87 different world record attempts taking place on the iconic course from Greenwich to The Mall

The London Marathon will host 87 different world record attempts on Sunday with broadcaster Adele Roberts among those looking to break new ground. DJ Roberts is attempting to set the fastest aggregate time to complete all World Marathon Majors with a stoma and is raising money for Cancer Research UK and Attitude Magazine Foundation in the process.

Four-time Paralympian David Wetherill will look to break the record for fastest marathon on crutches with the current time set at 6hrs 11mins and 11secs, while the fancy dress attempts range from fastest female in a rugby kit to male in a traffic cone.

A team of official adjudicators will be on hand at the start and finish lines to check costumes, verify times and confirm successful participants as official Guinness World Records title holders, earning them a place in the annual.
