Like never before, women can join the World Golf Hall of Fame in an unprecedented and numerous way. Dottie Pepper, Sandra Palmer, Cristie Kerr, and the late Beverly Hanson are nominated in the female category. In addition, seven founding members of the Ladies Professional Golf Association are also among the finalists in the category reserved for those who have made an extraordinary contribution to the growth of golf.

Among the men, candidates for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame include Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, and the late Tom Weiskopf and Johnny Farrell.

“The Nominating Committee has selected finalists who represent the highest caliber of competitors and contributors. Congratulations to everyone who has been nominated for this special recognition,” said Greg McLaughlin, executive director of the World Golf Hall of Fame, a few days ago.

The committee that chooses future members comprises 20 people and will announce on March 6 who are elected. Meanwhile, the induction ceremony to the World Golf Hall of Fame will take place only on June 10, 2024, at Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina.

Who are the nominees for the female category?

 

CHRISTIE KERR 

Country: United States.

Born: October 12, 1977.

Official Victories: 20.

Majors wins: US Women’s Open (2007) and Women’s PGA Championship (2010).

Solheim Cup: 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017.

International Crown: 2014, 2016, 2018.

Major Awards: LPGA Komen Award (2006).

DOTTIE PEPPER

Country: United States.

Born: August 17, 1965.

Official victories: 17.

Major wins: Kraft Nabisco Championship (1992 and 1999).

Solheim Cup: 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2013 (Vice-Captain).

Major awards: LPGA Player of the Year (1992), LPGA Vare Trophy (1992), Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year (1992).

SANDRA PALMER

Country: United States.

Born: March 10, 1943.

Official victories: 21.

Majors wins: Titleholders Championship (1972) and US Women’s Open (1975).

Major awards: LPGA Player of the Year (1975) and Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year (1975).

BEVERLY HANSON

Country: United States.

Born: December 5, 1924.

Died: April 12, 2014.

Majors wins: LPGA Championship (1955), Women’s Western Open (1956), Titleholders Championship (1958).
