Manchester City completed a PFA Player of the Year double on Tuesday night as midfielder Phil Foden and striker Bunny Shaw were named men’s and women’s winners for 2023-24.

Foden, 24, scored 19 goals and provided eight assists to help City clinch an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.

Erling Haaland — who won last season’s crown — was one of six nominees, including City midfielder Rodri, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer.

Shaw finished the campaign as the top scorer in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with 21 goals in 18 games for the club, despite having her season prematurely ended by a foot injury in late April.

The Jamaica international becomes the first female City player to scoop the award since Lucy Bronze won the accolade in 2016-17.

Shaw’s Man City team-mates Yui Hasegawa and Lauren Hemp were also nominated, alongside Chelsea’s Niamh Charles, Erin Cuthbert and Lauren James.

Having missed out on the evening’s main award, City academy graduate Cole Palmer was crowned the men’s Young Player of the Year after an outstanding debut campaign at…

Hollywood actor Will Ferrell has joined Leeds United as a minority investor.

Leeds owners, 49ers Enterprises, have a number of high-profile minority stakeholders including actor Russell Crowe, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and Major golf champion Jordan Spieth.

Ferrell, 56, has bought a small stake in the Championship club to join this group with the club’s general partners — from 49ers Enterprises itself — still in day-to-day control.

49ers Enterprises, who already owned 44 per cent of the club, completed their full takeover in July.

Ferrell, who is already a part-owner of Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC, follows a number of celebrities to try their hand at football club ownership in recent years.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have enjoyed meteoric success with Wrexham while JJ Watt and his wife Kealia invested in Burnley in May of last year and fellow NFL great Tom Brady joined the ownership group at Birmingham City in August.

Leeds finished third in the Championship and will face Norwich City in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals next weekend in their bid to return to the Premier League.

When Cristiano Ronaldo made his return to Manchester United in 2021 he faced a conundrum: having sold the £4million ($5.2m) mansion he previously owned in the north west, where would he, wife Georgina Rodriguez and their children live?

They eventually settled on a £3million property in Cheshire, notable not only for its swimming pool, cinema and garage big enough for four cars, but for its owner: former United striker, Andrew Cole.

A decade earlier, Ronaldo had been the one doing the letting. After swapping Manchester for Madrid in 2009, his five-bedroom house in the exclusive Cheshire village of Alderley Edge (one of three areas, alongside Prestbury and Wilmslow, which make up Cheshire’s “Golden Triangle,” where many of the area’s finest properties can be found), complete with indoor swimming pool, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and wine area was rented out to then-Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

It’s not just players. After replacing Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager in 2015, Jurgen Klopp ended up renting his predecessor’s house in Formby. And when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to Manchester as caretaker (and then permanent) manager in 2018, he was unable to move back into his former Cheshire home because of a tenant in place by the name of Virgil van…

McQueen was born in Scotland and came through the ranks at St Mirren, before moving to Leeds United in 1972.

The former Scotland international played under legendary manager Don Revie during his first few years at the club, winning the First Division title in the 1973-74 season.

McQueen moved to Manchester United in 1978, where he won the FA Cup in 1983 before leaving two years later. In total, he made 140 league appearances for Leeds United and 184 for Manchester United.

He also played 30 times for Scotland.

The turmoil with BBC programming has extended into a second day with Match of the Day 2 and live coverage of the Women’s Super League set to go ahead without presenters.

The BBC’s decision to stand Gary Lineker down from presenting Match of the Day on Friday sparked chaos within the corporation with walkouts from pundits and commentators severely disrupting Saturday’s schedule.

The BBC’s director-general Tim Davie was forced to apologise after the likes of Ian Wright, Alex Scott and Mark Chapman caused Match of the Day to run without presentation or commentary, Football Focus and Final Score to be taken off air entirely and Radio Five Live to drastically cut planned coverage.

Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was one of those set to take part in Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night but will not appear with the show now expected to go ahead in a similar, condensed and commentary-free format as Saturday’s flagship programme.
