Bad news puts on alert the LPGA Tour competitions in Asia. The Blue Bay LPGA golf tournament was canceled for the third time in four years. The long-awaited event was to be held at the Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club, located in Hainan and considered one of China’s top 100 golf courses.

The organizers argued “matters related to the covid-19”. In addition, the LPGA indicated that the event was suspended following the instructions of the China Golf Association, the highest authority for this sport in the Asian country.

Last December, China lifted virtually all of its Covid-related restrictions. It is worth remembering that the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing were held securely in February 2022.

The annual calendar of the LPGA Tour has scheduled a competition in China for October, the Buick LPGA Shanghai, at the prestigious Qizhong Garden Golf Club. Can it be played?

It is worth noting that the LPGA Tour has an annual calendar with competitions in the United States, Thailand, Singapore, France, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Canada, Spain, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.

The season is on

The 2023 season of the world’s most influential women’s golf circuit started a couple of weeks ago. In Orlando, The Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions hosted the last season’s champions. With a flawless game, the Canadian Brooke Henderson succeeded after completing 272 strokes (-16) and leading by four.

This was Henderson’s 13th victory on the LPGA Tour, and she walked away with a check for $225,000, reserved for the winner. The Swedish Maja Stark and the English Charley Hull shared second place with 276 (-12).

“It’s been an incredible week and a great way to start the year,” said Henderson, who had not won since her victory at the Evian Championship last July. “I always try to win a couple of times a year, so getting a win early takes a bit of pressure off me for what’s next,” the Canadian admitted.

The next stop will be the Honda LPGA Thailand, which will be played on the Old Course of the Siam Country Club.
