The history-making jockey who won the race in 2021 on Minella Times is hoping to improve on last year’s third place finish on the former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner at Aintree

Rachael Blackmore is predicting another bold showing from her ride in the Randox Grand National on Saturday. Four years ago the rider made history when becoming the first female jockey to win the world famous £1m showpiece on Minella Times, owned by JP McManus and trained by Henry de Bromhead.

Blackmore has ridden six times in the race and achieved her best finish outside of her victory year when coming in third on Minella Indo, the winner of the 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup under Jack Kennedy. The pair are reunited for a second attempt at Aintree on Saturday.

The 35-year-old looked forward to her seventh ride on the 33-1 chance, speaking to Betfair. She said: “I’m really looking forward to riding Minella Indo in the Grand National again. He’s such a brilliant horse, he’s such a joy to have anything to do with, and he’s in great form.

“He gave me a brilliant spin in the race last year. He really took to the place, he jumped the fences well and we hit the front on the run-in. In the end, we…

The first day of the Randox Grand National meeting is set to serve up the clash fans were denied at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 2023 Champion Hurdle winner Constitution Hill’s encounter with the Willie Mullins’ female champion Lossiemouth for the 2025 title had been long anticipated. Yet a late change of plan saw Lossiemouth tackle the Mares’ Hurdle, which she won for a second time, and Constitution Hill fail to finish after the 1-2 favourite fell for the first time in his career.

The pair now feature among the entries for the William Hill Aintree Hurdle along with Brighterdaysahead, another to disappoint in the Champion Hurdle after going off second favourite.

The two-and-a-half-mile contest was won in 2023 by Constitution Hill, who will this year be on a recovery mission after his dramatic fall four out.
