Swiatek to miss China Open for mysterious personal reasons

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has made a surprising decision to withdraw from the upcoming China Open, citing “personal reasons.” The five-time Grand Slam champion announced her decision on Friday, leaving fans and experts speculating about the cause behind this unexpected move.

Swiatek, 23, was the defending champion in Beijing, having claimed the title last year with a dominant performance over Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova in the final. Her absence from the tournament this year has caught many off guard, especially as she had expressed excitement about returning to the event.

“Due to personal matters, I’m forced to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing. I’m very sorry as I had an amazing time playing and winning this tournament last year and was really looking forward to being back there,” Swiatek said in a statement. “I know that the fans will experience great tennis there, and I’m sorry I won’t be a part of it this time.”

This marks the third tournament Swiatek has pulled out of recently.
