Iga Swiatek comfortably moved into the final of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open with a 6-0 6-1 victory over Veronika Kudermetova. This entire week in Doha, the defending champion spent less than two hours on the court.
The world No.1 Swiatek is yet to spend more than one hour in a single match at the 2023 Qatar TotalEnergies Open. After a first-round bye, the top seed defeated Danielle Collins in 53 minutes in the second round, then Belinda Bencic gave her a walkover, and Veronika Kudermetova detained her just 56 minutes in Friday’s semifinals.
Swiatek absolutely dominated the eighth-seeded Kudermetova, extending her perfect head-to-head record against the Russian to 3-0, having lost a total of just eight games in those three encounters.
Jessica Pegula will be Swiatek’s final opponent at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, at the place where the Pole kicked off her last year’s 37-match winning streak. The second-seeded Pegula advanced to the title match earlier on Friday, with a 6-2 4-6 6-1 victory over fifth seed Maria Sakkari.
