Swiatek makes short work of Vondrousova in Roland Garros quarterfinals

Date:

Three-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek has surged into the Paris semifinals for the third consecutive year with a commanding 6-0 6-2 victory over last year’s Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova, in just 62 minutes.

The world No.1 Swiatek dominated the match from the start, winning the first seven games. Vondrousova had only one break point opportunity, in the third game of the second set, but Swiatek swiftly saved it and established a 4-1 lead before breaking the fifth seed once more in the final game, converting her first match point.

Swiatek’s semifinal opponent will be the third seed, Coco Gauff, who staged an impressive comeback from a set down to defeat Ons Jabeur earlier on Tuesday. The second semifinal pair will be determined on Wednesday, with the quarterfinal matches between Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka and Mirra Andreeva.
