Swiatek beats Gauff to reach fourth Roland Garros final

Three-time champion and two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek demonstrated her dominance at Roland Garros, securing a spot in her fourth final with a commanding 6-2 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff.

Gauff, who is set to reach a new career-high No.2 ranking after the tournament, faced a tough challenge against Swiatek, falling to the Polish star for the 11th time in their 12 meetings. In a highly anticipated semifinal match, Swiatek seized control early, breaking Gauff’s serve twice to claim the first set.

In the second set, while leading 2-1 15-15, Gauff got into a heated argument with an umpire over a line call, which put the audience on her side as she was even wiping away tears. Despite the emotional distress, the American managed to go up a break for the first time in the match, 3-1.

However, Swiatek remained unfazed, mounting a remarkable comeback by winning four consecutive games and earning two match points on Gauff’s serve. Despite failing to break Gauff one more time, the world No.1 sealed the victory in her own service game, converting fourth match point as the third seed committed an unforced error.
