We know that there are lots of barriers for women to access sports. It’s something we’re always talking about at WR! Sweaty Betty wanted to tackle this head-on. They spoke to teenagers about the reasons for non-participation in exercise. They discovered that a lack of access to sports hijabs can be a barrier to girls participating in sports, with some girls having to remove their non-sports hijab during PE lessons at school.
We heard great things about Sweaty Betty’s first sports hijab when they launched it in 2021. They spent over a year developing it, working with testers to make sure that it delivered in all the right ways.
So we were thrilled to hear that they have launched a new Sports Hijab this year, ahead of International Women’s Day. They’ve continued on their mission to develop a functional and stylish design that stays put no matter what. They’ve worked closely with sports activist and hijab-wearer Lipa Nessa to get feedback on wearability and suitability. The new design has hidden banding so that it stays in place whatever sports are being played, with magnetic fastenings that enable it to be worn in multiple ways.
Sweaty Betty will also be donating all profits from the new hijab sales to the Sweaty Betty Foundation. This is their charity, launched…
