Southampton are closing in on appointing Will Still as their next head coach.
Talks between the two parties are at an advanced stage and progressing well, although club sources have said a formal agreement is yet to be in place.
Should that be finalised, then the 32-year-old will lead Southampton in the Championship next season.
If a deal is completed in time, there is a chance Still could be in the stands at St Mary’s on Sunday for the club’s final game of the Premier League season against Arsenal.
Johannes Spors, Southampton’s technical director, has been leading the club’s search for a new head coach.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl was also on Southampton’s radar as the club searched for a permanent replacement for Ivan Juric.
Still confirmed on Saturday that he would be leaving Lens and returning to the United Kingdom.
“It is a logical choice for me to be closer to my wife, for her well-being,” said Still, whose partner Emma Saunders — a TV presenter on Sky Sports — explained in March that she had encephalitis, a brain infection.
