After dominating in the opening round, Dawn Staley’s top-seeded Gamecocks faced deficits in the Round of 32 and Sweet 16 before finding ways to win. They punched their ticket to the Elite Eight with a 71-67 win over 4-seed Maryland.
Duke’s Sweet 16 win wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done. After facing an early double-digit deficit, the Blue Devils locked in defensively and earned a 47-38 win over a familiar foe in North Carolina. Kara Lawson’s team is one win away from the program’s first Final Four since 2006.
