The Gamecocks’ 64-45 win Sunday secures the program its third-consecutive SEC tournament title (ninth overall) and settles the debate over the true SEC champion. A salient point after the No. 1 seed for the SEC tournament needed to be decided with a coin flip after both teams finished 15-1 in conference play with their lone losses coming to one another. The conference title presented a final punctuation mark on South Carolina’s resume for a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gamecocks’ defense proved stifling, with Bree Hall locking down SEC player of the year Madison Booker, much like she did in the first meeting of these two teams when SC won by 17 and Booker was held to seven. Booker finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds on 4-of-13 shooting, but South Carolina — knowing she was the ignition for Texas — contained her impact early, keeping her scoreless until nearly halftime.
