Sir Jim Ratcliffe is among those attending the fan-led service at Old Trafford on Tuesday to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Munich air disaster.
Manchester United men’s manager Erik ten Hag will also attend the memorial ceremony, alongside men’s captain Bruno Fernandes, women’s manager Mark Skinner and women’s captain Katie Zelem. Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and former players Brian Kidd and Pat Crerand will also be in attendance at Old Trafford, as well as interim chief executive Patrick Stewart.
There will also be a memorial service in Munich at Manchesterplatz, Trudering-Riem, where former United player and assistant manager Mike Phelan will be present.
Twenty-three people died in the Munich air disaster on February 6, 1958 where a plane carrying 44 people on board, including United’s famous ‘Busby Babes’ side, crashed on its third attempt to take off from Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany.
Ratcliffe’s appearance at the Munich air disaster service is the latest the 71-year-old has made since his investment in the club was confirmed on December 24. He also attended United’s game against Tottenham Hotspur last month and visited their Carrington training base.
